The sector of Environment and specially water resources management is one of the major problems that Greece is facing. Taking into account that Mediterranean regions are influenced by a climate change characterized by drought tendency, it is obvious that water resources must be considered as top priority. Many cooperating agents of the public sector manage up to now, the water resources in Greece.

Despite their coordinated efforts, so far there is no uniform registry of data and information that could serve as a basis for a optimum policy of management. Knowing the consequences of such omission, the Ministry of Environment, Planning and Public Works assigned, after an open competition, the National Technical University, with the implementation of the project “National Data Bank of Hydrological and Meteorological Information” (NDBHMI).
